Dr. Johnson (email)

2006-2007 J. Philip Hogan Professor of World Missions

University of Washington
B.A., Northwest University
M.A., Assemblies of God Theological Seminary
M.A., Azusa Pacific University
Ph.D., Oxford Centre for Missions Studies/University of Wales

Dr. Johnson and his wife Lynette are veteran missionaries to Thailand, serving there since 1986. Their work has always sought to integrate both church planting as well as a concern for the whole person. Over the years they have helped in two new church plants and co-pastored a developing work with a particular focus on building reproducing small groups. During the past four years they have worked at developing a house church network in a series of five slum communities. This has involved children's clubs and holistic ministry to these communities as well. Dr. Johnson has also helped to found two different programs run through local churches that help to provide school scholarships for poor children.

At a regional level Dr. Johnson serves on a variety of strategic committees charting the future of missions, especially among unreached people groups. He and his wife serve as Program Directors for the Institute of Buddhist Studies at the Asia Pacific Center for the Advancement of Leadership and Mission (APCALM) in Baguio, Philippines and assist the Asia Pacific leadership team with the Strategic Church Planting Initiative which focuses on developing new church planting teams for least reached people groups. His research interests include leadership in Thai slums and church planting among unreached people groups.
