The
King-Seymour Leadership Forum is an effort by the Assemblies
of God Theological Seminary to use the spring of 2006
as a period of critical reflection on the relationship between
the Pentecostal tradition and racial reconciliation.
While early Azusa Street participants reflected that the “color
line was washed away in the blood of Jesus Christ,” history
would indicate that American Pentecostals have emerged largely
along separate racial lines. The King-Seymour Leadership
Forum will use the lives of Martin Luther King Jr. and William
J. Seymour as lenses through which to understand the religious
and social aspects of the church’s moral leadership
in society. These two significant 20th century African-American
leaders provide the chance to acknowledge both the wasted
opportunities and the unexplained potential of the Pentecostal
tradition.
